Frozen Forest - Plein Air Painting

This is my plein air painting from the forests of Torres Del Paine. I painted this with watercolour & gouache in freezing temperatures.

Original painting 8.2” x 5.7” on watercolour paper.

Story Behind The Painting
On my second day in Torres Del Paine, after hours of trekking from one camp site to another, I then went up past the glaciers, through the forest and the snow to reach the highest point in the middle of the 'W Trek'. I returned to my camp tired but wanting to use the rest of the light in the day to make a painting of the surrounding area.
The wind was very strong, and icy cold, coming down from the giant glaciers, but I found a sheltered spot amongst some trees looking over the ice cold rapids, down into the valley. I positioned my brushes and paints against some of the tree trunks around me, and began... It wasn't long until my entire body was shivering and shaking with the cold, but I persued for as long as I could until I was satisfied with getting enough painting down. I had to stop for a few minutes before the end to jump up and down on the spot, a few star jumps, and constantly blowing warm air into my hands in an attempt to warm my body for the final push on the painting. It was that cold.
After I finished, I quickly packed away and ran back to my tent and grabbed my stove to make something hot.
