“The tree which moves some to tears of joy is in the eyes of others only a green thing that stands in the way. Some see nature all ridicule and deformity... and some scarce see nature at all. But to the eyes of the man of imagination, nature is imagination itself.”
- William Blake
I hope you lift your eyes off from your device and appreciate all that is beautiful and nice around you this weekend, and if something catches your eye, don’t be afraid to pause and look twice!
My latest plein air painting of a tree that caught my eye in the pavilion gardens 3 days ago.
Painted with watercolour & gouache. Aquarelle pad, 5.9in x 8.3in.
The Royal Pavilion Gardens (The Pav) is a place I spent many hours and days during my late childhood and throughout my teenage years.
It is basically my garden. Well that’s how I’ve always looked at it. Less than a 5 minute walk from my house, not too bad to have a palace and its gardens as a place you go to every day as people usually do with their own actual gardens, is it?
This is one of 2 of my first plein air paintings in Brighton. I’ve wanted to paint Brighton en plein air for a while, the other day I just grabbed my kit and headed over.
I found this little view, and a decent tree to sit against, and went for it.
This is the result!
I’m hoping it will find a home with a Brighton local, but it can also be shipped anywhere in the world. :)
Painted with watercolour & gouache, Aquarelle pad, 5.9in x 8.3in.
Looking For The Pack - Companions On The Path -
The image of the wolf has appeared to me on a few occasions in recent months. And not just from the Game of Thrones! Even though I am fan.
Wolves have appeared in my dreams. Do you have animals appear in your dreams? Do you even remember your dreams?
This is my finished white wolf watercolour & gouache painting. A personal piece. I want to paint at least one or two more paintings of the wolf to make a small collection.
Painted on Arches Cold Pressed watercolour paper. 23cm x 31cm - 9 in x 12 in.
‘Violet Pavilion’ 🎨

‘Nature’s Mirror’ - Salar De Uyuni, Bolivia ⛰☁️
Framed Original Painting 5.7 x 3.7”
I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to go on a 4 day Jeep trip across the Uyuni Salt Flats in Bolivia, and even more so that I was able to make a quick plein air study at the main attraction on day 4. Probably the biggest natural ‘Mirror’ in the world.
This is my sketch of Salar De Uyuni, amid the Andes in south west Bolivia. It is the worlds largest salt flat lake. The salt content is very high, and you can walk for miles barefooted. A stunning place to visit.
Another little landscape sketch from my trip to South America, this one from Bolivia again. 🎨
The Uyuni Salt Flats. I had just a few minutes to capture something when the Jeeps stopped for ‘a break’. I imagined I would have half an hour, and suddenly I had to pack away all my materials at a lightening pace with this little study unfinished.
Roughly postcard size 5.5 X 3.7”
We arrived by the lake in Bolivia. All you could hear was the distant sound of the birds and for long periods complete silence. But you could see for miles and the colours were vibrant in the sun. The salt water reflected the mountains, and the flamingos flew past in the distance.
This is one of my small, postcard size plein air paintings from my 4 day Uyuni Salt Flat tour in Bolivia a couple of months ago.
I only had a short time to make this landscape sketch, but I managed to get enough down before the end of the lunch break. I then touched it up a little back home in Brighton, England.
Painted with watercolour and gouache.
This is my first artbook, a collection of my Japanese brush pen sketches that I created whilst travelling around Japan on the subways and trains during my latest trip in 2016.
The pages in the book also encourage conscious awareness, contemplation, reflection, taking action, appreciation and inspiration through the imagined thoughts of the character on each page, sometimes in the form of my own poetry.
All of the commentary in the book is from my own imagination. I tried to bring an interesting and thought provoking message across to the reader, in my own creative way.
I also share some insight and personal experiences from my trips to Japan.
I hope you enjoy my first book!
